Construction Drying

Some examples of our success with floods in the CONSTRUCTION industry.

  • New Build Hotel, Westminster: Flooded over five floors just weeks before handover. Speed Drying technology allowed our client to keep on track and remove the potential of substantial penalty clauses.

  • New Build Apartment Block, Southampton. 78 apartments, many of which had been sold, flooded due to defective roofing. All apartments were damaged and the builder had been unable to dry out the block using conventional methods due to power & noise constraints. Three Speed drying systems were used to dry the block within 12 days, with minimal rip out of the dry lining. Our actions allowed purchasers to move in on their planned dates significantly reducing claim potential against the Construction Company.

  • Football club: Guernsey. Following a major flood to the entire club a year previously, the building was dried over many months out using traditional methods. It was then refurbed at significant cost. Business interruption costs had escalated. Following failure of the resilient flooring, it was found that the subfloor was still saturated and that pipe work buried in the floor was leaking. Insurers and the Football club, did not want to go through the year long exercise again so soon after completion. Speed Dry technology was used to reduce the impact and cut downtime. Within 16 days the floor was certified dry and new floorcoverings /redecoration were undertaken in a short period to allow a return to normal trading. Estimated cost saving in the region of £70,000.

  • Hospital Extension, Gloucester. The subfloor was flooded just days before the new resilient flooring was to be laid. Delays would result in significant penalties. Speed drying technology was deployed, drying the subfloor to the required 75% ERh in 4 days keeping the project on track..

  • Apartment Block, Sheffield. A block of twelve apartments nearing completion were saturated after a tap was left running over the weekend in one of the top floor apartments. It was proposed that the dry lining be removed and replaced after a conventional drying program had been undertaken and which was expected to take up to four weeks. However, when it was realised that only 64 amps was available, the basic drying program that had been proposed was. A faster less power hungry solution was required. Speed drying technology was deployed and within 7 days the building was certified dry keeping the project on track.

  • High Value apartments: Bowden, Manchester. New build apartments due to be occupied by their new owners which included several Manchester United football players were flooded due to pipework defects. The main damage in each apartment was to the lower dry lined walls and the sub floor insulation over which was laid a hydronic underfloor heating system and 75mm gyvlon screed. The Insulation was saturated. Action Dry were called in. Compressor extraction with water separators were used to extract loose water from beneath the screed and then Speed drying techniques were added to create an optimised rapid drying environment. Works in each apartment were completed in around 10 days with NO rip out and minimal redecoration. Our Actions minimised costs to the MC and ensured that the new occupiers could move in on the planned dates. Significant cost saving was attributed to our actions.

  • Office Build Worcester. Newly built office building flooded throughout ground floor when the nearby river burst its banks. The floor was occupied by three separate Companies who were all asked to use the Insurers preferred damage mitigation contractor. All proposed different levels of drying equipment, all agreed the building’s occupiers would have to be relocated, that stripping out was vital and that the building was likely to be out of use for around six months. Our client, one of the occupiers, who uses our services on a National basis, claimed their right to use their own preferred supplier - Action Dry. The Speedry trailer system was deployed by Action Dry. NO stripout was undertaken other than removal of vinyl wallpaper and carpet tiles. Our Clients offices were cleaned and dried within 8 days. Following drying, a planned refurbishment was undertaken allowing the occupants to move in with the minimum of delay. The other occupants had not even finished their drying program by the time our client was back in! IMAGINE THE COST SAVINGS!!!

  • Army Barracks Wiltshire. To keep on track, the concrete sublfoor needed to have its moisture content reduced so that the vinyl finish could be fitted. Time was running short and freezing conditions did not help. Forced drying was required with drying targets achieved over a weekend.
